Karva Chauth in India

Karva Chauth is a festival of married women in India. Married women observe fast for the prosperity and longevity of their husbands. It is one of the ancient festivals of India and possesses a tremendous social and cultural significance, this festival is celebrated by keeping fast, applying henna and exchange of gifts. Nowadays, Karva Chauth is more of important festivals, thanks to Bollywood which made Karva Chauth much popular than those ancient days. It is believed that Karva Chauth is one of the most favorite festivals of married women. Karva Chauth is a time of family gathering where all married women from grandmother to newly wed grand daughter-in-law observe fast. On the day of Karva Chauth, married women break their fasting only after the Moon appears. They worship and break their Karva Chauth fasting.
